The event consists of 16 teams battling for the top women’s international football title during 32 matches, across stadiums in five Chinese cities: Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin and Wuhan. China automatically qualifies as host of the event, with Norway, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, England, Australia, Korea DPR also through to the finals. Further qualification rounds are taking place throughout 2006 and into 2007 to decide on the final 16 participating teams.
The final event will consist of 64 matches. The international signal will be produced by Host Broadcast Services (HBS) to the highest technical standards. HBS was also the host broadcaster for the 2002 World Cup Korea/Japan™ and 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™.
